# Profile

## Definition

A profile allows you to define advanced access rights on modules. It allows different [capabilities](/doc/the-basics/middlewares.md#default-capabilities) to be granted according to the modules. For example, we can define that a profile gives full access to the `person` module but a read-only access to the `user` module.

## Automatic view generation

The Detail and Edit views, used to manage profiles, automatically adapt when new modules or new capabilities are added.

## Related to user rights

A user can only give access rights to certain modules if he has the right to administer these modules. For this purpose the user must be admin or have the capability `admin` on some modules. The Detail and Edit views of the profile module display only modules that the user can administer.
